Test your horse

SynchroGait® and Skeletal Atavism TestTM are performed on a hair sample or a cheek swap (depending on laboratory used). These samples are easy to handle and can be sent with regular post. Read more about each test below. The tests are protected by patents and only available at accredited laboratories.

SynchroGait®

                                            logotypessynchrogait all

Result: AA, CA or CC
Sample collection: Horse owner or certified identifier
Sample identity: In certain countries, the test certificate can state that the identity of the sample has been verified. This can be verified on the DNA level by ordering the test together with a parentage or ID-control. This can also be verified if an identifier (a person that read the chip of the horse) takes the sample and signs the ordering form.
Time: Depend on the laboratory and the season. You will normally receive your results within three weeks.
Additional information: For very urgent errands the Swedish laboratory offer testing with extra short handling. Read more here.

Skeletal Atavism TestTM

SA loggor both

Result: Non-carrier (N/N), Carrier (N/Del) or Skeletal atavism case (Del/Del). See complete table here
Sample collection: Horse owner or certified identifier
Sample identity:

The sample identity should preferably be verified. One of the following procedures should be chosen:

1) A certified identifier takes the sample

The identifier scans the chip of the horse and then pulls the hairs. He or she then signs the ordering form to guarantee that the sample matches the printed horse name and registration number.

2) The owner takes the sample

a) You order a parentage test on your horse together with the Skeletal Atavism TestTM. These two tests will be performed on the same hair sample.

b) In certain countries, like Sweden, some horses may have previously already gone through parentage control on the DNA level. If this is the case and if the laboratory has access to this data, you can order the Skeletal Atavism TestTM together with an “ID-control on the sample”. This means that the sample is compared to the sample that came in during the parental verification procedure.

Time:  Depend on the laboratory and the season. Normally, one test procedure is performed each moth.
Additional information: Contact your laboratory if you are unsure if the horse has gone through a parental verification previously or not.
